Major flooding that hit Belgrade few years ago started the construction of dams on the riverbank in Zemun. The plan included the construction of two dams, which will provide a protection for a particularly exposed part of the coast from "Venecija" to the restaurant "Reka".
In late 2007 began the construction of embankments from "Šaran" to the restaurant "Reka" going 400 meters upstream. This section was completed in 2008 and than in the end of 2010 started the next phase of construction from "Saran" to "Venecija". In addition to more than necessary protection against floods, the banks of the Danube in Zemun borough will be transformed into a cascade quay with promenade, cycling paths and modern access road.
The section between "Venecija" and "Šaran" is in its final phase of construction and workers of “Beogradvode” are currently building a protective wall on the upper promenade. The embankment is built of irregular stone blocks, where we commend the choice of material that fits into the ambiance of old Zemun. Especially after complaints about the use of concrete elements in the construction of the upstream embankment. As soon as the construction is completed in the coming days they will start paving pedestrian promenades with the construction of stairways between cascades.
In addition to the Zemun quay, its central green market will also get a functional and aesthetic transformation. Specifically, this open-air market is a pilot project in the broader initiative of creating a number of market-squares in Belgrade. The solution for the new market-square was created by a reputable "CIP" institute in an attempt to successfully merge these two functions. The idea is that during the morning hours square will serve as a modern green market, which will be transformed into a town square after the end of working hours. Market will be equipped with mobile stalls that can be easily removed and stored when market is closed.
The works on the construction site are also near completion. Currently they are paving Youth Market Square, after extensive interventions on the underground installations. Pavement blocks are made of granite slabs and in the central part of the square was built small fountain to complement the open space of the square.

Pored Zemunskog keja i pijaca u ovom naselju će dobiti funkcionalno-estetski preobražaj.
